The lakebed in this region is very sandy, when the big storms hit, the shallow lakebed is violently disturbed. Constantly shifting the sand is picked up by powerful movement of the water resulting in a very muddy or murky appearance. I often hear from people when viewing this series for the first time, they think at first glance the images have the appearance of ‘film grain’ or ‘digital noise’. This is not the case; on closer inspection you can see how much sand is contained within the crazy shapes the wind and water make.
