This brown bear nicknamed ‘Myron’ is a familiar face to those who frequent this region of Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. Myron is one of the older and larger alpha males along the river. He is pictured here sitting under the protective shade of a willow tree that branches out over the water. Myron had a smart fishing tactic that used little energy. He patiently waited under the willow for the salmon to gather in a little eddy in front of him. He sits still as a statue, once the salmon are in position, he would pounce and was typically very successful with this lazy approach!
