People often ask what it’s like shooting at Lake Erie. Well, it is like this. A giant washing machine. My image ‘Wild Horses’ depicts the chaos that is Lake Erie when the Gales of November blow. There is no pattern to the waves, they move in every direction. The day this image was created, the deckhand from the fishing vessel the Nancy A. Siddal (Port Stanley, ON) told me a wave blew out their starboard side house doors! Everyone made it back to shore safely.

When I am shooting from within the water, it is beyond challenging to hold your position, your head must constantly be on a swivel as waves pummel you from each direction. With little to no time in-between the waves crashing on me, I must focus on the waves I am concentrating my efforts on shooting. Duck diving in freezing conditions. Dodging waves and balancing my stance. All while trying to focus on a wave in the distance, as I look through the back of a water housing, through a tiny viewfinder on the camera in that housing, to capture the peak moments I share with you.
