Fyrewater

I had been in Australia for 42 days, 42 days of straight rain. Literally, rain every single day. Not ideal for shooting. Especially given I was there to mainly focus on ocean waves for this trip. The reason the rain has such a negative impact on shooting in the ocean is runoff. That much constant rain means a great deal of runoff along the coastline. So, it leaves the ocean looking very muddy and brown looking. That is when I tried to get a little creative and think outside the box. Water and light make for a wonderful combination. What you see here in ‘Fyrewater’ are the streetlights surrounding the Wollongong Harbour dancing and reflecting off the surface of the water shortly after dark. It makes for some beautiful unique imagery. Captured using a medium length telephoto lens inside my water housing and shot at water level. Using the telephoto and a shallow depth of field helps to achieve this look.
